New Exhibition

Dear friends of Pariwhero Gallery,

We are thrilled to announce our latest launch of creative and fine art photography.

We have a galaxy of Wellington photographers on show, fresh from the prestigious Iris Awards recently held in Nelson. You can now see a collection of their prize winning work from current and previous collections. This show will now run till February.

Esther Bunning, NZIPP Grand Master of Photography, a finalist for the Parkin Drawing Prize in 2021 and 2022, NZ Photographer of the Year 2020, has a style that is innovative, enigmatic and instantly recognisable. Her new work is an exploration of how we experience the threads of the land around us in NZ, and our connection to this. All done in camera, the double exposed images are printed on silk and rephotographed in an organic state, represented as ‘silk’ stories (with individual overstitched embroidery) as limited editions. Esther’s other recent awards include winner NZIPP Creative Photographer of the Year 2020 + 2021

Catherine Cattanach, NZIPP Grand Master of Photography and well known for her award winning creative portraiture, presents her ‘Flux’ Series where she breaks free from traditional photography by using water to create distortion and a painterly effect. The impressionistic nature of the images is enhanced by their presentation on heavy fine art canvas. This limited edition are all shot in camera, without Photoshop. A multiple award winner, Catherine’s recent prizes are NZIPP In-Camera Portrait Photographer of the Year 2021, Wellington Photographer of the Year 2018 and NZ Creative Photographer of the Year in 2016.

Amber Griffin, a Grand Master of the NZIPP and renowned for her exquisite portrayals of New Zealand ballet dancers, shares images from her ‘First Collection’ and also her most recent works which won her NZIPP Professional Commercial Photographer of the year in 2022. Amber applies her personal dance experience creating vividly inspiring photographic artworks that receive repeated international recognition. Recent awards for 2022 include International Photographer of the Year, and Commercial Photographer of the Year [Australian Photographic Prize,] and Best of Nation, [World Photographic Cup].

Debbie Rawson, gallery owner and newcomer to NZIPP, presents her Iris Award prize winning images, a glimpse of her latest series ‘Shadow of Intent’ and adds new ethereal landscapes and portraits to her previous series ‘Oases and Mirages’ She is best known as a musician, but has been pursuing the visual arts with dedication since the age of 12, when her father gave her a Box Brownie for Xmas.
